Edenbridge never disappoint, their music is thoughtful and full of passion whilst never giving up its secrets easily.
Edenbridge are by far my favourite Female-Fronted Metal band. Over the years I have seen them grow from their humble beginnings to become one of the major forces in Symphonic music. Band founder Lanvall (all instruments and the kitchen sink) returns with his partner, vocalist Sabine Edelsbacher, and new associates Dominik Sebastian and Johannes Jungreithmeir, to again enthral us all with an album of sublime songs. Why do I love the music of Edenbridge so much? The answer to that question is easy. It's because I love music that I have to work at and with to enjoy. Instant fixes are fine, but I adore albums where no matter what is going on, you have to find the key that unlocks the musical secrets contained within by yourself. When you do unlock those hidden musical delights, you're left with a sense of accomplishment.
The digital single 'Shiantara', based on themes surrounding the Star Trek universe, is first out of the starting gate. The band, ably supported by the Junge Philharmonie Orchestra, set out their wares during this track and show you what you're about to hear over the next hour or so, which is music that is wonderfully overblown, flamboyant and pompous. 'The Moment Is Now', with Edelsbacher's wonderful vocals, the riff heavy 'The Visitor', where Lanvall shows off his superb guitar skills, and the Eastern flavour that is 'Return To Grace' all provide further proof that Edenbridge are still one of the most potent acts around.
However, if you want a song that sums up the whole of Edenbridge's career in one fell swoop, then take a listen (loudly) to the epic 'The Greatest Gift Of All'. This one track is the band and everything it stands for – musicianship, song-writing and amazing production values – in one thirteen minute package. Personally, I feel it's the best thing Lanvall has written as well as being the best song the band have recorded and performed.
Edenbridge never disappoint, their music is thoughtful and full of passion whilst never giving up its secrets easily. 'The Great Momentum' could be their biggest achievement so far, and I'm sure aficionados of their music will take great pleasure from this new release.
