If you're a fan of H.e.a.t, Reckless Love or Pretty Wild, then do yourself (Ruff) justice and check the Crazy Lixx out.

Crazy Lixx's eponymously-titled fourth album from 2014 signified a marked step up in form by the Malmö quintet, thanks to notable highlights such as the Airbourne-ish raucity of 'Hell Raising Women', the classy 'All Looks, No Hooks' and – my personal favourite – 'Girls Of The 80s', a song as gloriously uncomplicated and eminently splendid as its title suggests.

'Ruff Justice' is significant in that both guitarists have been replaced since the aforementioned release – Edd Liam & Andy Zäta are out, Chrisse Olsson & Jens Lundgren come in – the good news is that, to these ears at least, the band's sound remains pretty much unchanged.

Opener 'Wild Child' sets the tone admirably, but is quickly overshadowed by the subsequent number, 'XIII' (sung "ex-triple-I") which is the theme to a new, gory 'Friday The 13th' video game. From Jens Sjöholm's pumping bass intro to the Jake E Lee-like scything guitar riff, it's clear that the track (partly) owes something to Ozzy Osbourne's 'Shot In The Dark', yet it's also a fine piece in its own right with all the hallmarks of a great Rock Horror soundtrack song – à la Dokken's 'Dream Warriors'.

'Walk The Wire' has a crisp guitar motif that is reminiscent of both Def Leppard's 'Hysteria' and Danger Danger's 'Don't Walk Away', while the menacing 'Killer' benefits enormously from the well-judged breathing space which allows the song's dynamics to shine.

Thirty years ago the Velcro-catchiness of 'Hunter Of The Heart' would've surely made the playlist at Seventh Veil, Tropicana, The Dollhouse or any of the locations for "restorative viewing" that were name-checked in Mötley Crüe's 'Girls, Girls, Girls', thanks to its audaciously swaggering hook and less-than-deep lyrics.

The ballad 'If It's Love' brings nothing new to the well-worn formula – listen to Sweet & Lynch's 'Me Without You' for evidence of a fresh approach – while closer 'Live Before I Die', which also features on the 'Friday The 13th' game, packs its fist-pumping stadium sonics into a scant three minutes.
If you're a fan of H.e.a.t, Reckless Love or Pretty Wild, then do yourself (Ruff) justice and check the Crazy Lixx out – or they'll send Jason Voorhees to visit...
