An Italian band that specialises in what they call "Horror Metal".

Deathless Legacy is an Italian band that specialises in what they call "Horror Metal". Not a new concept of course, as Alice Cooper did that in the seventies, but this band are Female-Fronted which gives it a different spin, so I thought why not.

On first listen, I was quite impressed with the opening track 'Dance With Devils,' a short, orchestral instrumental which promised an interesting listen. 'Join The Sabbath' gave me my first hearing of vocalist Steva La Cinghiala and I had sort of been expecting something in the region of Charlotte Wessels, Floor Jansen or Sharon Den Adel, or something sounding at least remotely like one of those three, but that's not what I got and unfortunately Cinghiala's voice sounded somewhat strained. I originally thought this was sung in her native tongue and to be honest, I'm still not sure either way.

I ended up listening to this around five times to try to get to grips with it, but to be honest, there is nothing strong enough in there to rest in my memory cells; no hooks and not a great deal of melody... nothing. 'Witches' Brew' is slightly odd, as the song starts with the sound of cackling witches around a cauldron and the chorus just contains everybody shouting "witches' brew", which actually makes it sound like "witches' broom". The cackling is probably the best part to be honest.

'The Black Oak' isn't too bad, with a bit of a memorable chorus, although each one ends with everybody shouting "hang him!" which is a bit harsh. There is an excellent keyboard solo in here though and it's the keyboards, played by Pater Blaurot, which is the only real highlight on this album. There's a bit of a Hammond solo in 'Lucifer', some nice keyboard/guitar interplay in 'Voivode' (where Dracula gets a mention, and yes, everybody shouts it) and a nice solo in 'Creatures Of The Night', which is a bit Vaudevillian and as such is probably closer to Cooper than anything on here.

So, to be honest, I have to say that I wouldn't buy this, but I have no doubt that some people would enjoy it, although I wouldn't like to guess where they were housed. I would also suspect that if the stage shows involved acting, effects and such like to illustrate the subject, then they may be a whole lot of fun live.
