It's refreshing to see that there are still bands out there willing to take a chance and try something different.
Third album from the Swedes continues their brand of Rock they amusingly call "Alfapocalyptic" (no, me neither!), and it's certainly a difficult listen. Sung in their native tongue and featuring aggressive vocals akin to Drowning Pool, it's as uncomfortable as it is unique.
Tempered by a guitar tone that adds a Punk edge, songs like the bouncy 'Stigmata' and the Cult-inspired 'Avgrundsgravitation' border on the accessible, and there's a defining eighties Hair Metal theme on 'Klubb 7'. The song structures and the guitar melodies are eclectic and the vocals fit the style perfectly. 'Dödsmaskin' harks back to Joy Division, 'Ӓven En Hund Har Sin Dag' and 'Svarta Får' are enjoyable Hard Rock romps, and there's a Joy Division vein running through the title track.
Easy listening it isn't, but it's refreshing to see that there are still bands out there willing to take a chance and try something different. Alfahanne is one such band.
