A quite indispensable piece of work for Melodic Rock lovers that all Fireworks & Rocktopia readers will surely embrace.

The elements of Kryptonite were borne when The Poodles vocalist Jakob Samuel met up with Italian keyboard maestro Alessandro Del Vecchio. Although previously only knowing each other from their respective recordings, they did what all respectable musicians do; write songs. Though Del Vecchio isn't an official member of the band/project, he was instrumental in assisting Samuel and Frontiers' Serafino Perugino in selecting the musicians to bring the songs to life.

Former Poodle and current Treat bassist Pontus Egberg was first on board, followed soon after by drummer Robban Bäck (Mustasch, ex-Eclipse), while guitar duties fell to young Swedish sensation Michael Palace – an inspired selection as anybody who's heard the Palace debut album 'Master Of The Universe' will agree.

With such a distinctively recognisable voice as Samuel's, it's certainly hard not to draw comparisons to The Poodles, though the modernized Rock sound of his day-job band has certainly been polished over in favour of a smoother Classic Melodic Rock approach, saturated with lush keyboard textures, undoubtedly due to Signor Del Vecchio's influence. I don't believe that the uber-talented Egberg/Bäck rhythm section is actually used to its full potential with Kryptonite, if I'm truly honest, but their contribution sits perfectly within the realms of the Melodic Rock genre. Palace turns in a quite stunning performance with a series of wonderfully melodic solos, displaying maturity way beyond his years, enhancing his reputation and fully justifying his inclusion alongside some of Sweden's respected elder statesmen of Rock.

The two singles 'Chasing Fire' and 'This Is The Moment' have already divulged exactly what Kryptonite have to offer, but elsewhere the glorious Melodic Rockers 'Keep The Dream Alive', 'Fallen Angels' and 'One Soul', the lively 'Get Out Be Gone', the beautiful power ballad 'Knowing Both Of Us' and punchy album closer 'No Retreat No Surrender' maintain the high standard, with 'Better Than Yesterday' being the track that's most similar to The Poodles. For sure, it's an album that requires repeated listens to fully appreciate, but once it truly reveals its charms, it's a quite indispensable piece of work for Melodic Rock lovers that all Fireworks & Rocktopia readers will surely embrace.
