A great release that should appeal to fans of good eighties Hard Rock.

'Confrontation' is the debut album from The Yellow Dog Conspiracy, a five-piece band hailing from Lisbon, Portugal; the release follows on from 2013 debut EP release also entitled 'Confrontation'. The band consist of the twin guitars of Luiz Arantes (lead) and J. Delle Chiave (rhythm), drummer Vicky Marques, bassist Nuno Correia and vocalist Vice, although I don't think that's his real name. The album was produced by Brad Cox and legendary Guns N' Roses producer Mike Clink.

Starting with 'Enough Is Enough', a hard-hitting song with hooks to floor you and a pulsating beat that hits you full-on, Vice's vocals have a distinct American sound that could be plucked from any of the LA legends. 'Falling Into You' and 'Break It Down' follow and show how accomplished these young Portuguese Rockers are; the playing is top notch and full of attitude and style. 'Cocaine To The Vein' sounds like it's been dragged off Sunset Strip kicking and screaming, you get a sense of the chemistry in the band through the stunning twin guitars and the backing of a strong and powerful rhythm section.

'We Need A Change' shows a slight change in pace, slowing it down at first but you feel the song building to a high end finale encased with some wonderful guitar-work. 'Skinny Little Man' keeps the pace flowing and throws in the lyric "Short dresses, tight asses" like the eighties never left us, but the incredible screaming guitars make this song an instant favourite. Two full-on Rockers, 'Somebody Else' and 'Revenge', bring the proceedings to a close and leave you with only one option; to hit play again.

The Yellow Dog Conspiracy have created an album that contains all the ingredients of a classic eighties Metal album, played with style and enthusiasm that will transport you back to a time when music was about flair and style, but this also has the substance. 'Confrontation' is a fine debut album containing eleven tracks of pure Rock that they can be proud of; it's well produced with great sound, although with those names being at the helm, what would you expect? A great release that should appeal to fans of good eighties Hard Rock, however, fans of Modern Melodic Hard Rock should also give the guys a chance – Portugal definitely Rocks hard.
