They're just as good now as they were thirty years ago.

I was lucky enough to attend this show and this live album brings back great memories. With twenty-three songs, and running to almost two hours, it's certainly good value for money.

Comprising of a run through of all the tracks from their 2015 'War Of Kings' album, followed by a run through of their third and best-known studio release 'The Final Countdown', it naturally falls into two parts, and since their best known and "number one" hit track of the same name gets played twice, in the middle and at the end, it feels like twice the encore! Although the concert is available as a DVD, this is a review of the digital audio only release.

The band sounded great on the night and this has naturally translated across to the well-produced recording. Joey Tempest's distinctive tones are clear and full of emotion and melody throughout, and whilst it's easy to get distracted from the sheer beauty of John Norum's guitar work on stage by the lights and the action, hearing the audio only allows the mind to concentrate and appreciate it much more.

Highlights include the beautiful, haunting and Bluesy solo on 'Praise You', the embroidery of the little Bluesy undercurrents on 'Nothin' To Ya', which brings much more feeling into what is normally a straightforward Rocker, and the atmospheric instrumental 'Vasastan'. The keyboards are also loud, proud and a joy to hear, and not just for the unforgettable fanfare of the album title track.

The boy-band 'Top Of The Pops' image and all the long hair, as glorious as it may have been, was also a major distraction from the fact that these guys are serious musicians. This live recording helps to redress that balance a bit. If it were not for the crowd noise and singing, it could almost pass for a studio recording. Then there is the sheer pleasure of revising classics like 'Carrie', 'Rock The Night', 'Cherokee' and the one that still never gets old for me no matter how many times I hear it – 'The Final Countdown'. Aside from all serious talk, they're just plain Rock 'n' Roll fun.

By playing every track from both albums featured, the band are making at least two points - that it's all killer, no filler, and that they're just as good now as they were thirty years ago.
