Though not enamoured by the image, I admit this isn't a bad album at all.

It's funny how over the years opinions have altered on Glam Rock. Back in the seventies when the genre appeared, artists like Marc Bolan, Slade and The Sweet were the major chart acts of the time and would become huge influences on an endless number of high profile bands. Kiss, New York Dolls and Alice Cooper on the other side of the pond pushed the boundaries even further with their more shock-orientated approach that, by the time the eighties appeared, bands like Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister and W.A.S.P. would kick your ass if you even considered taking the piss out of their make-up or outrageous costumes.

Unfortunately, towards the end of the decade acts like Poison and Pretty Boy Floyd diluted the genre's quality control department to the point that the backlash of Grunge sounded the death knell for Rock in general, let alone Glam. Though The Darkness and Wig Wam relaunched the style to some success, it has become more of a parody and difficult to take seriously, comedic almost to the point of embarrassing. So when this Sister's Doll album arrived I wasn't expecting much.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, SD comprise of three Mileto brothers that, in the Glam tradition, go by the pseudonyms B Monroe (vocals/guitars), Bryce Lipz (drums) and Auzy Foxxx (bass), and look like they've just emerged from the aftermath of an explosion in a Mascara factory. They've also reached the finals of 'Australia's Got Talent'.
The title track kicks things off in somewhat pedestrian style, the banal lyrics not helping, but despite my reservations following an auspicious start, the album kicks into life. The brothers are certainly capable of penning a damn catchy tune and unleashing some seriously great riffs, even though lyrically they cover every cliché in the Glam Rock book and accommodate enough cheese to top Pizza Hut's output for the next millennium.

'All Dolled Up' features White Widdow's brothers Jules and Xavier Millis in the backing vocal department, with the latter also producing; they're two guys I have a lot of respect for and could be instrumental in nurturing SD if they continue working together. Former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick is also a collaborator whose presence on 'Young Wild & Free' certainly elevates proceedings.

Though not enamoured by the image, I admit this isn't a bad album at all. Sisters Doll are doing exactly what they want to do... and good luck to them.
