Highly recommended!

Even at this early juncture, my Top Ten Albums Of 2017* are pretty much established. However, things may change, as out of the blue, from the land of pies, rugby league and Northern Soul (Wigan, England) comes Bigfoot, a brash, barnstorming bunch who grasp eighties Hair Metal by the... erm... hair, and drag it kicking and screaming into the here and now.

As with the aforesaid pies, this long-awaited debut is overflowing with nutritious, meaty goodness that leaves a succulent after-taste long after its consumption. There's certainly no prerequisite for condiments here because what you have is perfectly seasoned fayre from the outset.

Following closely in the footsteps (or should I say "Bigfoot-steps") of their two EPs, 'Bigfoot' (2015) and 'Stone Soldiers' (2016), this album ups the ante substantially, and the opening salvo of 'Karma', 'The Fear' and 'Tell Me A Lie' charges at you like a crash of rampant rhinoceroses. '...Fear' especially (check it out on YouTube) is one of those songs that you should be humming for years to come, and definitely a contender for Song Of The Year. The dual guitars of Sam Millar and Mick McCullagh are nothing less than impressive, as their taut assimilation produces riff after riff, transporting the tunes along on a tidal wave of tumultuous melody.

Often the unsung heroes of many bands, I honestly feel that it's the pounding rhythm section of Matt Avery (bass) and Tom Aspinall (drums) that make this album so commendable; both are superb throughout and they create a delectable depth of decibels that is often lacking these days. Sitting atop this scintillating musicianship are the vocals of Antony Ellis who does a sterling job; his variability, power and passion suit the Bigfoot sound and are exemplified impeccably on 'Forever Alone', an ambitious power ballad that proves the band are no one-trick pony.

The second half of the album is equally as inspiring, the pulsating Glam of 'Freak Show' and 'I Dare You' (with its 'We Will Rock You' backbeat) being particular highlights. Closer 'Yours' is noteworthy too, an epic, impassioned, Progressive piece that propels the band towards new dimensions with efficacious results. The remainder? I'll let you explore and enjoy at your leisure.

Vocalist Ellis told me, "We raised the bar, and it's turned out... an absolute crumper!" For those unfamiliar with Wiganese, I'll simply say... highly recommended!
