An enjoyable enough listen though I'm not sure if I will be returning to it much in the future.

Italian band Skeletoon (previously known as Jack O'Lantern) were founded by singer Tomi Fooler in 2007 as a Helloween tribute band. After playing numerous dates all over Italy, the band recorded original material for their debut album 'The Curse Of The Avenger' released in 2015. 'Ticking Clock' is the follow-up and can be described as a concept album, with the concept in this case being the night time dream and nightmare experiences of a young boy and how his father provided him the courage to get through the night.

The album has a total of nine tracks which not surprisingly take influences from bands like Helloween, Accept and Pink Cream 69. Fooler himself sounds very much like Bruce Dickinson on most of the album. The record opens with 'Dreamland' which starts with an introduction of TV channels being changed as a storm rages in the background, before the guitars and drums kick in for a Helloween type romp; 'Night Ain't Over', 'Chasing Time' and 'Mooncry' also follow a similar formula.

'Drowning Sleep' (featuring Jonne Järvela – Korpiklaani) slows things down and has a Black Sabbath/Metallica feel, though I thought that Fooler's voice sounds very like Geoff Tate when not singing flat out. 'Ticking Clock' (featuring Jens Ludwig – Edguy) has a very similar tempo and the music has heavy Metallica vibe. 'Falling Into Darkness' comes as a bit of a surprise as it is an acoustic ballad with some deft guitar playing that provides some relief from the bombastic riffing and drumming that preceded it. This track also shows that there is more range to Fooler's voice than just belting out at full volume.

The ten-minute-long 'Awakening' concludes the album and feels like the band want to give the listener a send-off with a taste of all that has gone before, with plenty of guitar riffing, thundering drums and changes of pace. Skeletoon don't bring anything new to the party, but 'Ticking Clock' was an enjoyable enough listen though I'm not sure if I will be returning to it much in the future.
