This release will provide a wealth of enjoyment when you get to experience the culmination of five living legends coming together to create aural magic.

Like lunar eclipses, a band of this pedigree does not occur often. When it does, as is the case with Sons Of Apollo, it generates immediate interest. This super-charged and hyper-talented band is the brainchild of keyboardist Derek Sherinian and long-time friend, former Dream Theater bandmate and prodigal drummer Mike Portnoy. If those names are not enough to command attention, they rounded out the band by recruiting Hard Rock royalty in the form of Billy Sheehan, Jeff Scott Soto and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal. If a line-up of that calibre does not excite the senses, sadly, not much will. While this is seemingly shaping up to be an out of the gate success, it still begs the question "do they deliver"? Thankfully, for both the band and its soon-to-be legions of fans, the answer is a resounding and emphatic "yes"!

All of the nine tracks feature instrumental passages of monstrous virtuosity. However, never lost is the focus of maintaining prescribed song structures, melody and memorable hooks. Ever the consummate professional, Soto delivers a majestic vocal performance, while Sheehan's growling bass can be found all over the album, especially on 'Labyrinth'. Thal confidently upholds his end of the bargain with some multi-stringed insanity, including a mind-bending guitar solo on 'Signs Of The Time'. Sheehan and Thal also share some impressive unison playing on 'Lost In Oblivion'. Sherinian chooses his moments wisely and instead of cluttering the music with unnecessary layers of keyboards and intrusive sounds, his bits add to the music perfectly. Portnoy is, well, Portnoy and again reaffirms his place as one of the best drummers of the modern age.

With the current trend of these "manufactured" bands recording material without ever having the intention (or perhaps desire) to tour in support of the album, Sons Of Apollo are bucking that trend with each member committing themselves to touring in support of 'Psychotic Symphony' throughout 2018. That will undoubtedly be a sight to behold when these individuals take to the stage and perform this outrageous music live.

With the album being offered in a dizzying array of formats, InsideOut are clearly investing in Sons Of Apollo with a marketing campaign to inspire the purchase of physical products. Regardless of your choice of format, buying a copy of this release will provide a wealth of enjoyment when you get to experience the culmination of five living legends coming together to create aural magic.
