Axel Rudi Pell 10 Years ago Karma: 2
I am a huge fan of Axel Rudi Pell. I like many of his albums, maybe "Mystica" and "Oceans Of Time" are my favourite ones. Therefore this quote taken from the official ARP-site is very teasing:

"Axel Rudi Pell will release the brandnew studio album called "The Crest" via SPV on April 26th 2010 (Germany: April 23rd 2010). It will feature 10 brandnew songs which run approx. 57 min. "This is definately our Masterpiece so far, it has everything to become a real classic in the long ARP history ! A record packed with energy and emotions ! In a few weeks we will put one complete track on this site for your listening pleasure, so stay tuned !"

Not sure if he says that just to sell records or if it REALLY is the masterpiece of Axel´s long career!? I counted the albums on his site and this will be his 21st since 1989, means he did 21 albums in 21 years

I will buy it in any case.

Interesting - I didn't mind some of the stuff he did with Jeff Scott Soto. I'm pleased to see SPV back up and running again too!

I have to say that I've tried on a few occasions to get into ARP as I have read so many positive comments and reviews of his music, however no matter how much I try I'm left sightly cold by what I have heard. The guy is a massivley y talented player, however the actual songs just pass me by.

I know it can't be easy from 21 albums in 21 years, however if there is one definitive ARP release which would it be?

One definitive? Then I would say "Oceans Of Time". For me an incredibly good album.

I prefer the albums with Johnny Gioeli before the ones with Jeff Scott Soto. Both are fantastic, but somehow Gioeli fits better with the style of Axel Rudi Pell.

OK that is the one I shall seek out for a reappraisal.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Yes, I would agree about 'Oceans Of Time' - but then I do also have most of ARP's albums

[and ditto from Savatage, darkblue..."in" comment!!]

OK

Tried - Failed!

I've now given Oceans of Time a lot of listens and while it isn't bad by any means, I can't say it gets me excited. Pell is a great talent, but the songs themsleves seem to lack substance to me.

Sorry..........

Prefer it to Savatage though PJS!!!

The new album has part 2 of the track 'Oceans Of Time' ('Dark Waves Of The Sea') and that is my favourite on 'The Crest'.

Sorry you are not "up" for ARP, darkblue, but we cannot like all the same things, can we??!!

Are you sure you really want to know, darkblue??!!

Well, as you've asked, I think it's wonderful - but I haven't watched the DVD yet! The best of Corus Corvax should be with me next week.......
