Androbb - 'Still On The Run'

Androbb will have to keep running until they find what they're looking for because they are a long way off it yet.

Poor Androbb must have done something bad because for their third album they're still running from something. Judging by the lyrics on the title track it had something to do with comments on Facebook. We have clearly arrived at Heavy Metal for the 21st century.

Anyway, said track is quite the punchy number; solid riff action and a pounding drum attack set up a rollicking number that would have been better placed higher up the track list because there's a good chance you won't get this far into proceedings.

Opening with the tedious 'Tell Me The Truth' means 'Still On The Run' takes the wrong turn immediately thanks to its plodding monotony. There are some fine guitars on display and the odd wailing solo that makes this listenable at all.

Most confusingly are the lyrics that appear to be delivered by a man shouting that makes them sound altogether creepy; "wanna ride my rocket tonight" and "ooh, touch me again, kiss me where I like it the most" will not get the groupies swarming. Dreary lyrics on 'Sorry' and '...Truth' get nowhere near the emotive plane they reach for and end up dipping their toes in the pastiche pool.

Musically, the lads from Liechtenstein can certainly get an amplifier working and some of the intros have a strong 1980s-era Whitesnake sound when John Sykes was squealing out some of the finest riffs in Hard Rock. But the heavy repetition makes it sound like Sykes playing in a pub band.

Subsequent listens do not unveil any hidden layers, only show the cracks in the same ones. Androbb will have to keep running until they find what they're looking for because they are a long way off it yet.
