Superfecta - 'Primal Instinct'

I'm certain most readers will find something on the album to enjoy.

Superfecta are a four-piece from London who formed in 2011. They released their debut EP to much acclaim a year ago and now follow it up with their first album. All four tracks from the EP are included and 'She's A Star' once again powerfully opens proceedings. Vocally, it sounds like Soundgarden meets Stone Temple Pilots. 'Emotional Miracle' lends a nod to Alter Bridge with Mark Tremonti style guitar work all over it, courtesy of Danun Todd.

'Inside' begins with an acoustic intro and slowly builds into a dark number with some fine drumming from Junior. A pounding bass line from Max D Pinto opens and continues throughout 'Driven' and it again features some fine drumming from Junior. 'Paradox' is a Rocking number that sounds like Nirvana in places and features a haunting vocal from Andy Urwin, who incidentally drew the cover for the album.

Title track 'Primal Instinct' is up next and is the star of the show clocking in at over nine minutes. The song starts off in a brooding manner and quickly turns into Classic Rock of the highest quality with some fine riffing and powerful output from the rhythm section. The song lets up for a moment with some nice acoustic playing from Todd. The only thing that slightly lets this number down are the gang vocals during the chorus, however on repeated plays you kind of get used to them!

'Fading Light' is a slower paced track that again builds up and ends with another fine guitar solo. 'Fallen Angel' is a fast paced Rocker that never lets up during its four minutes. Pearl Jam have clearly influenced the band on 'To Live Again'; the song is an acoustic-based slower number until Todd lets rip with an amazing solo for the last minute of the song. AC/DC riffing dominates album closer 'Pendulum'.

Overall, the album is a strange brew of Grunge, Classic Rock and Alternative Rock and I'm certain most readers will find something on the album to enjoy. Superfecta will be touring the U.K. to support this release, so do yourself a favour and go and see them!
