Hayseed Dixie - 'Hair Down To My Grass'
HotOn this album, HD put their own spin on a set of Classic Rock songs.
Like Steel Panther, Hayseed Dixie are one of those bands that divide opinions. They started out as an AC/DC Hillbilly Tribute band, but have more recently left the AC/DC songs behind to cover a wider range of artists, and even write the occasional original composition. Whether you agree or not with what they do (basically taking a Rock song and performing it in their own inimitable Bluegrass style), you can't deny that they're actually very good at what they do, and they've forged a fairly successful career out of doing it – though it may be a bone of contention for some that they've made it bigger than some of the amazing acts that write their own songs.
So on this album, HD put their own spin on a set of Classic Rock songs; namely 'Don't Stop Believin'', 'Eye Of The Tiger', 'The Final Countdown', 'We're Not Gonna Take It', 'Summer Of 69', 'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Dude (Looks Like A Lady)', 'Living On A Prayer', 'Wind der Veränderung', 'We Are The Road Crew', 'Comfortably Numb' and 'Don't Fear The Reaper' – if you need me to name the artists then you're without doubt reading the wrong magazine (and the German one you don't think you know, you do – it's actually the German version of a very successful song from 1991!)
For some it might be sacrilegious to take some of the most beloved songs of our Rock genre and perform them in this style, but I can't deny some of them put a smile on my face [and mine – Ed]. How long the novelty appeal can last for though remains to be seen.
